Assam: ABSU Commemorates 34th Death Anniversary of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma
Guwahati, 1st May: The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) solemnly observed the 34th death anniversary of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, fondly remembered as the ‘Father of the Bodos,’ with heartfelt ceremonies and tributes on Wednesday.
The commemoration commenced with the ABSU’s flag being half-hoisted at Thulugapuri, Dotma, under the stewardship of Dipen Boro, President of ABSU. A poignant floral homage was paid at Bodofa’s tomb, with Assam Cabinet Minister UG Brahma leading the solemn tribute.
Notably, Bodofa’s burial site was adorned with floral tributes, led by Biswajit Daimary, Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly. Daimary extolled Bodofa’s revolutionary life, underlining his instrumental role in mobilizing Bodos worldwide to embrace their identity, language, culture, and traditions.
Reflecting on Bodofa’s enduring legacy, Daimary remarked, “Bodofa UN Brahma lived a revolutionary life, inspiring Bodos worldwide to assert their identity and heritage through language, culture, and traditions.” He underscored Bodofa’s pivotal leadership during his tenure as President of ABSU, a position he held until his passing in 1987.
“Bodofa remains an exemplar for us. Whenever challenges to community unity arise, we recall him and his teachings to navigate forward in society,” Daimary emphasized.
In commemoration of the occasion, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Pramod Boro, Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), are scheduled to attend and offer floral tributes in honor of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma.
