Assam: Accident in Bilasipara Claims School Student Life Amid Cyclone Remal’s Havoc

Bilasipara, May 29, 2024 — In a tragic incident this morning, the town of Bilasipara was struck by a heart-wrenching accident as a result of Cyclone Remal’s severe impact. Around 7 am, an auto carrying students and other passengers en route to Shankardev Shishu Niketan school met with a catastrophic collision on Bania Road, likely due to debris caused by the cyclone. This led to the driver losing control, causing the vehicle to overturn abruptly.

The aftermath of the accident left numerous passengers, predominantly students, with severe injuries. Among the injured was 7-year-old Shivam Barman, a student of Shankardev Bidya Shishu Niketan, who was accompanied by his mother. Despite immediate efforts to rush the injured to Bilasipara Model Hospital, Shivam succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at Kokrajhar Hospital.

A local resident recounted the tragic event: “This morning around 7 am, an auto carrying students and other passengers was en route to Shankardev Shishu Niketan school in Bilasipara. As they approached Bania Road, they encountered an obstruction, possibly due to the cyclone, causing the driver to lose control and the auto to overturn. Several passengers, including students, sustained severe injuries in the accident. Among the injured was Shivam Barman, a 7-year-old student of Shankardev Bidya Shishu Niketan, who was accompanied by his mother. They were rushed to Bilasipara Model Hospital but were later referred to other hospitals. Tragically, when Shivam Barman reached Kokrajhar Hospital, he was declared dead on arrival.”
