Assam: Accused in Attempted Rape Case Shot by Police in Silchar

Guwahati, 20th March: In a dramatic turn of events, an accused individual involved in an attempted rape case was reportedly shot in the leg by the police in Lakhipur, Assam’s Cachar district, on Tuesday night.

The accused, identified as Jamir Uddin, allegedly attempted to escape while being transported to the crime scene for the recovery of the purported weapon used. Sources indicate that the police resorted to the use of force as Uddin tried to evade custody, resulting in him sustaining a bullet injury.

Currently, Uddin is undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH) for a non-fatal injury.

Uddin faces charges related to his alleged participation in the kidnapping and attempted rape of a woman on March 16, along with four other suspects. Prompt action by authorities led to the apprehension of all suspects involved in the incident.
