Assam Achieves Milestone in Job Recruitment with Transparent and Efficient System

Guwahati, August 2, 2024: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a significant achievement in the state’s job recruitment process through a recent post on X. The Chief Minister emphasized that Assam’s revamped government services recruitment model has garnered nationwide acclaim for its transparency, leak-proof system, and timely completion.

Since 2021, Assam has successfully provided over 97,000 jobs and is set to add another 50,000 positions. This transformation marks a significant departure from the inefficiency and corruption allegations that plagued the previous Congress government.

How Assam Achieved This Milestone

Addressing a history marred by inefficiency and corruption, the current administration has implemented a fair and transparent recruitment process. Key aspects of this reform include:

Scale of Execution

The state managed 14 lakh applications through 1,240 test centers across 25 districts, showcasing the scale and organization of the recruitment drive.

Selection Process

The recruitment involved conducting written tests, shortlisting 58,000 candidates, and completing interviews to select 25,791 candidates for 48 departments using advanced technology.

State Level Recruitment Commissions (SLRC)

To streamline the appointment process, the government established the SLRC for Class III and IV posts, which played a crucial role in the reform:

  • Centralized Approach: Combining various department appointments and creating a uniform selection procedure.
  • Tech-Driven Process: Utilizing technology to ensure a seamless recruitment process free from cheating, paper leaks, or controversies.

  1. Advertisement for vacant posts
  2. Online form fill-up
  3. Written test
  4. Shortlisting for skill tests and oral interviews
  5. Results declaration

Impact and Efficiency

With this new model, Assam has reduced the recruitment turnaround time to just 400 days, significantly cutting the financial and logistical burden on both students and the government. This achievement aligns with the Chief Minister’s promise to deliver one lakh government jobs by the end of the electoral term.
