Assam Achieves Milestone in PM-KISAN Scheme with Over 100% Coverage in Several Districts, Says CM Sarma
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on October 26 that the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme has reached full saturation in several districts, achieving over 100% coverage.
This accomplishment marks a key milestone in the state’s initiative to empower farmers through this central government scheme.
Sarma highlighted impressive statistics for five districts: Majuli, Lakhimpur, Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Golaghat. “I am pleased to report that the PM-KISAN Scheme has achieved saturation in these regions, with Majuli leading at 163% coverage, followed by Lakhimpur at 122%, Sivasagar at 108%, Charaideo at 107%, and Golaghat at 101%,” he said.
Overall, the scheme now supports 17.5 lakh farmers across Assam. The Chief Minister affirmed the government’s commitment to reaching similar coverage across all districts, thereby benefiting the agricultural community, known as “Annadatas.”
Sarma also noted that performance evaluation across nine districts, especially in Upper Assam, revealed outstanding achievements, with coverage rates surpassing the state’s average of 26.46%.
Launched on December 1, 2018, the PM-Kisan Scheme is a centrally funded initiative providing Rs 6,000 annually to all landholding farmer families, distributed in three equal installments. Eligible families include the husband, wife, and minor children, with the funds directly transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts. Certain exclusion criteria apply as per scheme guidelines, and state and UT administrations identify eligible farmer families for this support.
