Assam achieves over 75% tap water coverage under Jal Jeevan Mission
Guwahati, 22nd March: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the significant strides made in providing tap water connectivity to every household in Assam under the Jal Jeevan Mission. With over 75% coverage achieved, several water supply projects were inaugurated during the recent Vikas Yatra, underscoring the state’s commitment to enhancing residents’ quality of life.
Arunachal Pradesh stands out among other northeastern states as a leader in implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme. Recognized for its efforts in providing functional household tap connections, the state has achieved 100% saturation in implementing the scheme. Pema Khandu, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, expressed pride in the state’s achievement, highlighting the substantial funds allocated by both the Centre and the state to ensure access to clean and safe drinking water for nearly all villages.
In Mizoram, the state assembly was informed that all 728 villages have been covered under the Centre’s Jal Jeevan Mission. The mission, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019, aims to provide safe drinking water through individual household tap connections to all rural households by 2024. Public Health Engineering Minister Prof Lalnilawma reported that the scheme was fully implemented in 621 villages, with partial implementation in the remaining 107 villages, showcasing Mizoram’s commitment to providing access to safe and adequate drinking water for all residents.
