Assam: Adil Hussain Expresses Concern Over Deforestation for Development

Guwahati, 27th October: Internationally acclaimed actor Adil Hussain has joined filmmaker Rima Das in raising concerns about deforestation in Assam in the name of development.

Hussain shared his deep emotional connection with the lush green surroundings of areas in Assam and expressed his love for the picturesque landscapes in Chaygaon, Mirza, Boko, Dhupdhora, Krishnai, and Agya. In a Facebook live video, he couldn’t bear the thought of losing these enchanting trees due to deforestation.

He highlighted that while 90% of the population might have forgotten the emotional bond between trees and humans, the ongoing race for development has taken a toll on Assam’s trees and rivers.

Drawing from his experiences in foreign countries, Hussain emphasized that developed nations don’t face annual road repairs due to rainfall, unlike Assam. He urged the Assam government and National Highway authorities to avoid cutting down over 2000 trees for a proposed four-lane highway.

Hussain also questioned the frequent flooding and animal deaths on the Kaziranga road, suggesting that authorities should make developments without disturbing Mother Nature.

Rima Das had previously raised similar concerns, highlighting the importance of age-old trees for human existence and calling for thoughtful decision-making to ensure positive change. The joint efforts of these renowned artists reflect growing concerns about the environmental impact of development projects in the region.
