Assam: ADR Report Reveals Legal Allegations Against Congress Leader Gaurav Gogoi in Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase I

Guwahati, 8th April: The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) report on candidates with declared criminal cases in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase I has shed light on the legal predicaments surrounding Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, who is contesting from the Jorhat constituency in Assam. Gaurav Gogoi, son of the late Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, finds himself entangled in one criminal case, as per the ADR report.

Originating from Assam, Gaurav Gogoi’s political trajectory has been shadowed by legal allegations, as revealed by the ADR report. Representing the Indian National Congress (INC) party in the Jorhat constituency, Gogoi is listed with a total of nine criminal charges, two of which are categorized as serious under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Among the charges leveled against him are accusations of voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty, voluntarily causing grievous hurt to deter a public servant from his duty, criminal conspiracy, involvement in an unlawful assembly, rioting, and obstructing public way or line of navigation.

The intricate breakdown of charges encompasses IPC Sections 120(B), 143, 147, 283, 353, 332, 333, 188, and 427, alongside Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984. The case, registered under FIR No. 55/24 PS Basistha Kamrup(M) on 23/01/2024, allegedly revolves around accusations related to obstructing public servants and engaging in riotous activities. It’s important to note that as of now, no convictions have been recorded against Gaurav Gogoi.
