Assam: AGP to Contest Rabha Hasong Council Polls Independently in Key Seats

Guwahati: The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has announced its decision to contest the forthcoming Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) elections independently in a select number of constituencies. This strategic move marks a distinct approach for the party in the regional political landscape.

A pivotal meeting held on March 10 at the AGP office located in the Boko-Chaygaon constituency served as the platform for party leaders to meticulously discuss and finalize their electoral strategy. The gathering was crucial in shaping the party’s direction for the upcoming polls.

The AGP has declared its intention to field candidates in 12 to 15 council constituencies. Simultaneously, the party has pledged to extend its support to National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidates in the remaining constituencies, demonstrating a nuanced approach to coalition politics.

Furthermore, the AGP has indicated its openness to engage in dialogue with the Rabha Hasong Joint Struggle Committee, should an invitation be extended. This willingness to participate in discussions highlights the party’s commitment to addressing local concerns and fostering collaborative relationships.

The meeting saw the presence of prominent AGP figures, including General Secretary Ramendra Narayan Kalita and Dr. Kamala Kanta Kalita. Former MLAs Jyoti Prasad Das and Jyotish Das were also in attendance, alongside several key party leaders from the South Kamrup and Goalpara districts, underscoring the significance of the event and the party’s unified front.
