Assam: AJP Nominates Chittaranjan Basumatary for Majuli By-Poll
Guwahati: The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) has named Chittaranjan Basumatary as their candidate for the upcoming Majuli polls in Assam.
The party announced the candidates name through a press conference addressed by its President Lurin Jyoti Gogoi and General Secretary Jagadish Bhuyan.
However, the BJP named its candidate for the by-election on Monday. For the by-polls, the saffron party chose Bhuban Gam.
It may be noted that in the Assam Assembly elections of 2021, Basumatary ran for the AJP from the Dhemaji Constituency. He ran against Bhartiya Janata Party’s Ranoj Pegu and Indian National Congress’s Sailen Sonowal.
The polling will take place on March 7 and the results will be announced on March 10.
AJP claimed during a press conference that five candidates applied for the by-elections, but they chose Basumatary based on his political experience.
