Assam: AJYCP Fumes Over Duliajan Petrol Pump Reopening, Alleges Broken Promises

Guwahati: The Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has voiced strong opposition to the re-opening of a contentious petrol pump in Duliajan, accusing the district administration and Oil India authorities of reneging on their earlier assurance.

The student body’s central committee expressed profound concern after the fuel station, previously under scrutiny, resumed operations despite a prior commitment from authorities to keep it shut until a thorough investigation was complete.

Terming the decision “irresponsible and unjustified,” AJYCP lambasted the move, asserting it erodes the trust of the indigenous populace and raises serious questions about administrative accountability. In response to AJYCP’s protest, Oil India has reportedly extended an official invitation for a dialogue with the student organisation’s central representatives, slated for tomorrow. While AJYCP has agreed to attend the discussion, it has made its stance unequivocally clear: any decision that disregards the rights and concerns of the indigenous communities will not be accepted.

Reiterating its firm position, the AJYCP has demanded the immediate closure of the petrol pump, which falls within Oil India’s operational area, and has called for the outright cancellation of its lease agreement. The issue continues to fuel tensions in Duliajan, with AJYCP vowing to intensify its agitation if appropriate action is not taken promptly.
