Assam: Alert Issued in Dima Hasao District Due to Heavy Rainfall Forecast
Guwahati, 4th May: An alert has been issued in Assam’s Dima Hasao district following a forecast by the Meteorological Department predicting heavy rainfall over the next 10 days. Officials have urged people to avoid unnecessary travel, except for emergencies, as heavy rainfall is expected to hit the area from Sunday until May 15.
To ensure safety, the movement of heavy commercial vehicles along the Jatinga-Harangajao stretch of NH-27 will be halted from 8 pm on Saturday. Traffic will be diverted through alternative routes during this period.
The District Disaster Management Authority has appealed to the public to refrain from venturing out during the rain unless it is for emergency or medical purposes. They have also urged residents to remain vigilant and prepared for any potential disasters that may occur.
Contact numbers for the District Emergency Operation Centre have been shared for residents to seek assistance if needed. Dima Hasao has experienced continuous rainfall in recent days, disrupting normal life and leading to the closure of schools in the district headquarters, Haflong.
