Assam: Allegations of Misconduct Surface Against Ambagan Police Station In-Charge Amid Journalist Phone Footage Deletion Controversy
Guwahati, 14th May: Ambagan police station in-charge, Chandrakant Phukan, faces fresh controversy as allegations of misconduct emerge following the deletion of crucial footage from a journalist’s phone. The incident, which occurred at the Bhatiakhali-Lotani market, raises concerns about abuse of power and intimidation tactics within the police force.
On Monday night, Phukan confiscated the phone of local journalist Mofidul Islam while documenting the arrest of alleged goat thieves. Witnesses claim Phukan subjected the journalist to verbal abuse and threats before forcibly deleting the recorded footage, which contained vital evidence related to the apprehension of the suspects.
This incident highlights a recurring issue of alleged misconduct and aggression by Phukan towards journalists and civilians. Previous complaints against him suggest a pattern of abuse within the Ambagan police station, prompting calls for accountability and investigation into the matter.
