Assam Allocates Rs 329 Crore to Combat Brahmaputra River Erosion, Project Temporarily Halted Due to Rising Water Levels
Guwahati, 13th June: Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika has announced a substantial allocation of Rs 329 crore to address soil erosion along a critical 30-kilometer stretch of the Brahmaputra River. The funding is intended to fortify riverbanks and mitigate erosion risks in the region.
Minister Hazarika confirmed, “The tender has been awarded, and work has commenced. However, due to recent water level rises, the project has been temporarily halted. We have implemented temporary measures and assure the public that funds are readily available for this vital initiative.”
Speaking directly to residents of Dibrugarh, Hazarika reassured, “Your Chief Minister is deeply invested in your welfare, and we are committed to delivering the best possible outcomes for you. During my next visit, I will personally oversee the progress and ensure the timely completion of this critical work.”
The allocation and ongoing efforts underscore the government’s proactive stance in addressing the persistent challenges posed by Brahmaputra’s erosion, reflecting a commitment to safeguarding communities along its banks.
