Assam and Arunachal Pradesh to Hold Talks Amid Tensions Following Truck Driver’s Murder

Northeast Desk, 11th September: Amid heightened tensions between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh following the murder of an Assam truck driver, a crucial meeting between the Truck Driver Association, Maduripathar, Assam, and the Arunachal Pradesh state government is set to take place on September 12. The discussions aim to resolve the ongoing crisis affecting travel and transport between the two states.

The conflict escalated after the Assam Public Transport Union imposed an economic blockade in response to the murder, halting Arunachal-registered vehicles. The meeting will be held at the Conference Hall of Circuit House in Likabali, Lower Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh.

The tensions stem from the abduction and murder of Sanjay Nath, an Assam truck driver, on August 22, 2024, in Daporijo, Arunachal Pradesh. Nath’s body was found buried near the Subansiri River. Police have arrested nine suspects, including Tabu Doni and Jeke Marbom, after a thorough investigation. The talks aim to defuse the situation and ensure smoother relations between the two states.
