Assam and Nagaland CMs Discuss Key Issues Ahead of Northeastern Meeting with Amit Shah
Guwahati: Ahead of a crucial meeting of all Northeastern Chief Ministers with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma met with his Nagaland counterpart, Neiphiu Rio, in Guwahati on March 16.
The two leaders convened at Hotel Radisson Blu to discuss matters of mutual interest concerning Assam, Nagaland, and the broader Northeastern region.
The meeting, as shared by the Assam Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on X, saw both chief ministers engage in warm exchanges, focusing on collaborative efforts to address regional issues. This discussion sets the stage for a larger, closed-door meeting later in the day, where all the regional chief ministers will gather to discuss pressing concerns under the leadership of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
During the meeting, Shah is expected to review the implementation of the newly introduced Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the country. Officials highlighted that the BNS’s application in the Northeast will be a key focus, as the region adapts to the revised legal framework.
Shah’s visit to Assam and Mizoram will conclude on Sunday evening, marking the end of his three-day tour of the two states.
