Assam: Anti-Drug Sting Nets Suspected Narcotics in Ledo, Supplier on the Run
In a late-night operation that has garnered cautious applause from local residents, a joint team of Margherita Police Station and Ledo Police Outpost successfully seized 5.1 grams of suspected prohibited narcotics in Rodgaon, Ledo, on Tuesday, June 17. The targeted raid, executed with precision, saw officers recover the contraband following specific intelligence inputs.
The operation was spearheaded by Protap Gogoi, the astute Officer-in-Charge of Margherita Police Station, and Jyotish Phukan, the diligent In-Charge of Ledo Police Outpost. While the raid was effective in confiscating the suspected drugs, the primary suspect, identified only as Tinku, believed to be a local drug supplier, managed to evade capture. He is currently absconding, prompting a dedicated manhunt launched by the police to track him down and bring him to justice.
The local community in the 83rd Margherita constituency has largely welcomed the police’s decisive action, seeing it as a crucial step in combating the pervasive issue of drug abuse. However, beneath the relief, there’s an undercurrent of palpable concern regarding the escalating threat of narcotics in the region. A Ledo resident, speaking to the media, articulated this sentiment clearly: “The future of our youth is at risk. We hope the Margherita Police and Co-District Administration will continue and intensify their efforts to eradicate this menace.” Their words underscore the public’s desire for sustained and more rigorous measures to safeguard the younger generation from the clutches of drug addiction.
