Assam: Anti-Rabies Vaccination Camp Held Near Indo-Bhutan Border to Promote Animal Welfare and Hygiene

Assam: In a collaborative effort, the Bhutan India Friendship Association (BIFA) and Hatisar Himalayan Club organized a successful anti-rabies vaccination camp in the Dadgari area of Assam’s Chirang district, situated near the Indo-Bhutan border.

The camp aimed to protect local animals, including street dogs, pet dogs, and cats, from the deadly rabies virus while promoting environmental hygiene and animal welfare in the community.

The vaccination camp was part of a larger initiative, which also saw the launch of the “Swasth Safai Abhiyan” (Cleanliness Campaign). Volunteers and participants actively participated in cleaning the surrounding area, highlighting the importance of maintaining better hygiene practices and environmental awareness among residents.

Dawa Penjor, General Secretary of the Bhutan India Friendship Association, emphasized the importance of such initiatives for creating a healthier and more compassionate society. “Through this vaccination drive and the cleanliness campaign, we aim to not only protect the animals but also engage the community in preserving our environment for future generations,” Penjor said.

Robin Sunar, President of the Hatisar Himalayan Club, stressed the importance of community-driven actions for maintaining a balance between public health and nature. “This joint effort reflects our shared commitment to the well-being of both animals and the environment. We believe that community participation is crucial in maintaining a healthy balance between public health and nature,” Sunar remarked.

The event marked an important step in strengthening cross-border collaboration between Bhutan and India. It also served as a reminder of the need for continued public awareness to prevent the spread of rabies, a disease that poses a significant threat to both animals and humans in the region.
