Assam: APCC Chief Accuses UPPL and BPF of Collaborating Under BJP’s Leadership
Guwahati: Assam Pradesh Congress President Bhupen Bora has intensified his efforts to connect with voters in the Sidli constituency, alongside Congress candidate Sanjeev Kumar Warle, as the bye-election campaign heats up.
In a scathing critique, Bora alleged that the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) are merely fronts for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), operating under its shadow.
Bora claimed that despite presenting themselves as distinct parties, UPPL and BPF act in accordance with BJP’s directives, with their true allegiance lying with the ruling party. He contended that the BJP’s underlying objective is to dismantle the influence of UPPL and BPF in BTR politics and seize control of the region’s governance. This accusation comes amidst escalating political tension in the region, as rival parties vie for dominance in the bye-election.
Bora’s remarks aim to discredit the BJP’s influence and challenge its political maneuvering in Assam’s tribal heartland. Furthermore, he responded to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s allegations that the Congress sells its election tickets, dismissing them as baseless. Bora retaliated by questioning Sarma’s own political history, suggesting that he disclose how much he paid for a Congress ticket when he first contested from Jalukbari.
The situation reflects the intense political rivalry in the region, with parties engaging in verbal spats and strategic maneuvering to gain an upper hand. As the bye-election approaches, the contest is likely to become even more heated.
