Assam: Army Man Accused of Murdering Wife, Family Alleges Cover-Up
Guwahati: A gruesome discovery has sent shockwaves through the community in Goalpara, Assam, where the body of a woman, Saleha Begum, was recovered in Hurartek. The deceased’s family has accused her husband, Khairul Islam, an Indian Army soldier, and his brother, Injamul Haque, of murder.
According to the family’s allegations, Saleha was forcibly taken from her home in Jorjibasti by Khairul and his associates on March 22. The family claims that Khairul strangled her to death and attempted to stage the murder as a road accident. They further alleged that Khairul deliberately damaged the vehicle’s glass and tires to make it appear as an accident.
The motive behind the murder, the family claims, was a dispute over property and a four-wheeler vehicle. Reports have also surfaced that Khairul Islam had been married three times, with Saleha Begum being his second wife. His past marital history has raised further suspicions about the circumstances surrounding Saleha’s death.
The police recovered Saleha’s body late at night on March 22 and have launched an investigation. A PAN card found in the car identified the victim, listing her father’s name as Abdus Salam. The vehicle, registered in her name, bears the number AS 01 FT 9384. Saleha’s family has appealed to the authorities, demanding a thorough investigation and strict legal action against the accused.
