Guwahati, 19th November: A breakthrough has been achieved in the case of the heinous vandalism and arson targeting a 200-year-old temple in Assam’s Ratabari under the Karimganj district. The accused, identified as Anwar Ali, was apprehended on November 18 in Tripura’s Rasabari area.

Acting on a tip-off, Ratabari Police, led by station in-charge Uttam Adhikari and Suraj Dutta, successfully arrested Anwar Ali for his alleged involvement in the destruction of the ancient temple. The incident, which occurred on November 6, led to the complete destruction of the revered religious site.

The 200-year-old temple, situated in the remote tribal village of Damasra, had held immense cultural and religious significance for the locals. It housed idols of Shiva Parvati and Lakshmi Narayan, attracting worshipers for generations. The intentional act of arson had deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the tribal Hindu community, prompting demands for appropriate punishment for the perpetrators.
