Assam: Arrest of Inverter and Solar Battery Thieves Brings Relief to Kokrajhar Health Centres

Guwahati: In a significant breakthrough, Gossaigaon police have apprehended two men suspected of being behind a string of thefts targeting inverters and solar batteries from hospitals and health centres throughout the Kokrajhar district.

The accused, identified as Ziarul Sheikh and Amir Ali Sheikh, both hailing from Oxiguri village, were nabbed late last night following a carefully executed operation. Acting on a tip-off from a secret source, the police, with the assistance of the CELCO Foundation, managed to corner the culprits.

Police sources stated that the duo had been systematically looting medical facilities for an extended period, preying on their power backup systems. A number of the stolen batteries were successfully recovered during the operation. This arrest is particularly timely, coming just days after a brazen theft where 80 batteries were stolen in a single night from the Gossaigaon RNB Civil Hospital. Authorities are confident that the pair is responsible for a wider crime spree, with their modus operandi linked to thefts from no less than 20 health centres across the district.

The investigation is continuing as police work to ascertain if the thieves had accomplices and to recover any other stolen equipment.
