Assam: Arrested rape accused injured in police firing in Kokrajhar
Guwahati: A youth arrested in a rape case, was injured in firing in Kokrajhar district of Assam on Wednesday night.
The accused identified as Afruddin Islam.
According to reports, police officials traced Islam down to the location where he had buried the phone on which the rape victim had recorded the entire incident.
While searching for the mobile at the Ranipur tea garden area, Islam seized the service handgun from the officer-in-charge of the Salakati police outpost and cocked it to fire upon the officials.
Reportedly, the police opened fire on Islam in order to defend themselves, and he was shot in the leg as a result.
The officials apprehended him and immediately shifted him to a nearly civil hospital for treatment.
It may be mentioned that the Kokrajhar Police had arrested three boys, including Afruddin Islam for raping a minor at Salakati. All three were being interrogated in connection with a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act’s section 6.
