Assam: ASI Trapped Red-Handed on Bribery Charges in Cachar

Guwahati, 10 March: The Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, orchestrated a swift and decisive operation, resulting in the arrest of a police official on bribery charges in Cachar on Sunday.

Official reports indicate that a complaint was lodged with the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, alleging that an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Ghungoor Out Post in Cachar had demanded Rs. 6000 as a bribe from the complainant in exchange for returning the complainant’s stolen motorcycle.

The accused officer has been identified as ASI Noma Uddin Ahmed. Subsequently, ASI Ahmed reduced the bribe amount to Rs. 4,000.

Refusing to succumb to corruption, the complainant promptly reported the incident to the Directorate, seeking necessary legal action against the errant public servant.

In response, a meticulously planned operation was executed at Ghungoor Out Post, culminating in the apprehension of ASI Ahmed at his residential quarters immediately after he accepted the Rs. 4,000 bribe from the complainant. The tainted money was recovered from his possession and seized in the presence of independent witnesses.

A case has been registered in the ACB Police Station under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, bearing the reference ACB P.S. Case No. 20/2024.

Given the substantial evidence against the accused public servant, he has been arrested in connection with the case, with necessary legal proceedings currently underway.
