Assam: ATASU Stages Protest Seeking Arrest of Angoorlata’s

Guwahati: The All-Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU) and other Ahom organisations of Dhemaji in Assam led a protest on Saturday.

Angoorlata Deka, the president of the Assam BJP Mahila Morcha, was the target of the demonstration, which called for her arrest.

Reportedly, the demonstrators called for Angoorlata’s arrest after she allegedly spearheaded a rally against top state legislators with anti-Tai Ahom slurs.

Members of the students’ union who were protesting claimed that during Angoorlata’s gathering, people shouted “Ahom Nation Murdabad” slogans.

Moreover, the state BJP chapter, meanwhile, has accused Congress of attempting to damage their party’s reputation by disseminating a “morphed” film.

State BJP General Secretary, Pulok Gohain, during a press conference in BJP Headquarters in Hengrabari on July 30, made allegations against Congress for allegedly sharing morphed video of the protest where they were heard raising slogans “Ahom Nation Murdabad.”

In the video, BJP protestors were seen allegedly raising slogans of “Rahul Gandhi Murdabad”.

As per reports, the protestors were purportedly shouting “Ahom Nation Murdabad” chants, according to the people who posted the footage.

The video sparked fierce debate in the state.

However, after the event, the party reported it to the Dispur Police Station and asked for an investigation.
