Assam: Attempted Theft of Electric Wires Disrupts Train Services near Selenghat station
Guwahati, 28th February: In a disturbing turn of events, unidentified miscreants made an audacious attempt to sever and steal newly installed electric wires along train lines near Selenghat station, situated between Simaluguri Jn and Mariani Jn stations, late on Tuesday night.
Despite the wires being non-operational at the time, the incident resulted in several coaches of the 20503 Dibrugarh – New Delhi Rajdhani Express becoming entangled in the damaged wires.
Promptly responding to the situation, technicians were dispatched from Mariani Jn to address the damage and restore normalcy.
However, the incident caused significant disruptions to train services, impacting the schedules of several trains including the Vivek Express, Kamrup Express, and two Rajdhani Express trains traveling from Dibrugarh to New Delhi.
Fortunately, after concerted efforts, the affected trains were able to resume their journeys once the wires were cleared at approximately 1:35 am.
However, the repercussions of the incident lingered as trains departing from Dibrugarh yesterday are currently running more than 4 hours behind schedule, inconveniencing passengers and affecting travel plans. Authorities are investigating the incident and working to prevent similar occurrences in the future to ensure the safety and reliability of rail services in the region.
