Assam: Authorities Seize 1761 Kilograms of Suspected Burmese Supari in Chirang Raid

Guwahati, 21st June: Authorities at Puran Bijni police station in Chirang conducted a targeted operation on Thursday afternoon, resulting in the seizure of 23 sacks filled with suspected Burmese supari from the shop of Wahidur Rahman, known as Pappu Ali.

The raid led to the confiscation of approximately 1761 kilograms of the substance, which was promptly transported to the Bijni thana for further investigation. A case has been registered under number 84/2024 in connection with the incident.

The seizure represents a significant effort by local authorities to combat the illicit trade of supari, a substance known for its stimulant properties and associated with cultural and legal controversies due to regulatory restrictions.

Authorities are actively investigating the origins and intended use of the seized supari. Pending forensic analysis and inquiries into the case, further actions will be determined to address this issue comprehensively.
