Assam: Authorities Seize 45 Bags of Agarwood Worth Crores in Train Raid

Guwahati, 5th July: In a significant operation, authorities seized 45 bags of agarwood worth crores during a raid on a train traveling from Guwahati to Mumbai on July 4. The raid took place during the night at Bongaigaon railway station.

Agarwood, one of the most expensive woods globally, is highly valued for its medicinal properties. It is considered a stimulant, antiasthmatic, carminative, tonic, aphrodisiac, and astringent, and is used to treat conditions such as diarrhea, dysentery, gout, rheumatism, and paralysis.

The seized contraband included 41 bags of dried agarwood pieces and 4 cartons of agaru oil, which were being transported on the New Bongaigaon GRPF’s Nammanya Tilak Express.

Authorities have not yet disclosed further details regarding the origins of the agarwood or the individuals involved in the smuggling operation. Further investigation is underway.
