Assam: Baksa District Drug Inspector Leads Raids, Seals Four Illegal Pharmacies

Guwahati, 9th April: In a proactive move to crack down on illegal pharmaceutical operations, Baksa District Drug Inspector Ishwar Chandra Hazarika led a team in conducting raids across various locations, notably Bhakuamari under Baksa, Salbari sub-division. The diligent efforts of the department resulted in the identification and subsequent sealing of four unlawfully operating pharmacies.

Hazarika’s team, during a previous raid at a pharmacy in the Bhakuamari market, discovered four pharmacies operating without the necessary licenses and signboards, in clear violation of established regulations. In response, the drug inspector swiftly sealed all four pharmacies. Subsequent investigations uncovered similar irregularities in other areas, including Chalikanda market under the Salbari sub-division and Ghoramara market, where pharmacies were illegally selling sample medicines provided to doctors by pharmaceutical companies.

Affirming the commitment to uphold regulatory standards, Hazarika stated that appropriate measures would be taken against the firms found engaging in the illicit sale of sample medicines in Chalikanda Bazar and Ghoramara market. This decisive action underscores the authorities’ dedication to ensuring the safety and legality of pharmaceutical practices within Baksa district.
