Assam: Baksa Police Incinerate Illicit Liquor Worth Rs 2.5 Lakh in Major Raid
Baksa, 21st July: In a decisive operation against the illegal alcohol trade, Baksa police today incinerated a substantial quantity of illicit liquor on the banks of the River Pada in Hojua, under the Simla police station’s jurisdiction. The haul, consisting of 220 cartons of seized liquor, carried an estimated market value exceeding Rs 2.5 lakh.
The liquor was accumulated over the past several months from various busts within the Simla police station’s area. The destruction event drew local residents and representatives from multiple political parties, reflecting widespread community support for the crackdown.
Nilotpal Saikia, a police officer from the Shalbari sub-division, underscored the operation’s significance for public health and safety. “This action represents a critical step in our ongoing efforts,” Saikia stated. “Illicit liquor poses a serious threat to our youth’s future. We are committed to pursuing legal action against all involved in this trade, irrespective of their status.”
