Assam: Bangladeshi Smuggler Arrested in Karimganj
Guwahati: Assam police apprehended a Bangladeshi national from Karimganj district of Assam on Monday.
Reportedly, the Bangladeshi was identified as Zakir Hussain and he was born in Bangladesh’s Zakiganj.
According to reports, authorities near the border between India and Bangladesh apprehended a gang of traffickers from the neighbouring nation on Monday night. After crossing the Kushiyara River, the smugglers entered Indian territory.
However, only Zakir was able to be apprehended as all the smugglers managed to escape the police’s grasp and his possession of two cartons of alcohol was seized by the police.
According to the Karimganj Police, the person who was caught said that some Indians are also involved in smuggling. In the import and export of alcohol, they assist the Bangladeshi traffickers.
Reportedly, the excise department has been alerted, and action will be taken.
However, Zakir is being questioned by the police.
