Guwahati, 30th October: Assam police have arrested an Axis Bank employee, Mofidul Islam, in Assam’s Abhayapuri for his involvement in an illegal money transfer case.
Mofidul, affiliated with Axis Bank’s Abhayapuri branch, has been accused of embezzling funds by unlawfully transferring money from the account of one Balbar Hussain of Matraghola in Bongaigaon district to another account.
Following a formal complaint filed by Balbar Hussain, the police arrested Mofidul in Baraisla. The Abhayapuri police registered a case (No. 267/23) under sections 420/379 of the Indian Penal Code and presented Mofidul before a judicial court.
This incident of a bank employee’s involvement in cybercrime has stirred attention in the region.
