Assam: Barpeta District Records Significant Increase in Voter Base for 2025 Electoral Roll

Assam: The Barpeta District Election Office has announced the final electoral roll for 2025, reflecting a significant increase of 25,860 voters from the draft roll. The total number of registered voters in the district now stands at 956,108, comprising 492,044 males, 464,045 females, and 19 individuals identifying as third-gender. This expansion is attributed to the successful voter registration campaign during the 2024 Special Summary Revision.

This updated electoral roll marks a pivotal step in Barpeta’s democratic process, ensuring a larger segment of the population is eligible to participate in the upcoming elections. The increase highlights the district’s active engagement in expanding voter participation. Among the constituencies, Mandia saw the highest rise with 7,217 new voters, followed by Chenga with 7,198, Pakabetbari with 8,317, and Barpeta with 3,128. These figures underscore the impact of targeted outreach efforts during the registration drive.

The 2024 Special Summary Revision played a crucial role in the voter base expansion. Of the 55,578 applications received, an impressive 84.29% were approved. However, 15.07% were rejected due to issues such as incomplete documentation and invisible photographs, emphasizing the need for accuracy in submissions.

A key feature of this year’s voter roll update was the significant addition of young voters. The district welcomed 14,304 new voters in the 18-19 age group and 12,045 in the 20-29 age group, signaling a rise in political awareness and engagement among the youth.

The adoption of technology also played a vital role in streamlining the registration process. Platforms like the Voter Helpline App and the National Voters’ Services Portal (NVSP) facilitated online submissions, with 14,145 applications processed digitally. This move towards digital solutions reflects the district’s commitment to accessibility and efficiency in voter registration.

Since the last Assembly Election in 2021, Barpeta’s voter count has grown by 39,040, showcasing sustained efforts to bolster democratic participation. The current figures underscore the district’s dedication to fostering an inclusive electoral process.

Additional District Commissioner Moushumi Chetia called on citizens to remain proactive, encouraging them to verify their details and stay engaged as the district prepares for upcoming elections. Her statement reinforces the importance of continuous civic participation in strengthening democracy.

Barpeta’s final electoral roll for 2025 is a testament to the district’s proactive measures to enhance voter inclusivity. With notable gains among the youth and a streamlined registration process supported by technology, the district sets a commendable standard for democratic engagement. This expanded voter base lays a solid foundation for robust participation in future elections, showcasing Barpeta’s commitment to strengthening the democratic fabric.
