Assam: Barpeta Education Officer Accused of Land Grab in Bajali
Guwahati: A simmering land dispute has erupted in Bajali district, with allegations leveled against Ratul Kumar Das, the Primary Education Officer of Barpeta, and his brother Manasjyoti Das, a dentist employed at ONGC. Ratan Saha, a resident of Sarupeta, claims that the Das brothers fraudulently seized his land, taking advantage of his absence for work.
Saha alleges that the brothers used their influence and close connections with the Bajali District Commissioner to manipulate land records in 2016, illegally transferring his property into their names using fabricated documents.
The alleged fraud further escalated in 2022 when the brothers reportedly subdivided and redistributed two kathas of the land amongst themselves. Saha, upon discovering the illicit transfer, sought redress by filing a complaint with the Chief Minister’s Office.
This resulted in the Sarupeta Revenue Circle rectifying the land records. However, despite this official correction, Saha remains unable to reclaim his land and is currently forced to reside in rented accommodation.
Undeterred, Saha escalated his grievance by filing a formal complaint with the Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell. Following this, the Bajali District Commissioner was instructed to facilitate the return of the land to its rightful owner. Yet, despite this directive, no tangible action has been reported.
In a plea made through the media, Saha has implored the Chief Minister to intervene personally, demanding justice and the immediate return of his unlawfully acquired land. Local residents have rallied in support of Saha, echoing his call for swift action and resolution to the ongoing dispute.
