Assam: Barpeta to Launch Tribal Welfare Drive Under ‘Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan’ from June 15
Guwahati: The Barpeta District Administration is all set to implement the “Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan” from June 15 to 30, 2025, aiming to bring key welfare schemes directly to the doorsteps of the tribal population. This nationwide campaign is focused on ensuring inclusive development by facilitating last-mile delivery of government benefits to tribal communities.
A preparatory meeting chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Geetashri Lachit, ACS, was held on Monday at the District Commissioner’s office. During the meeting, Circle Officers were instructed to identify tribal-dominated areas within their respective jurisdictions and organise benefit camps in every revenue circle. Line departments have also been directed to set up stalls and undertake awareness activities during the camps to enhance outreach.
To ensure effective implementation, the district administration has earmarked specific venues across various blocks to host the welfare camps. The campaign will facilitate on-the-spot registration and delivery of essential services such as Aadhaar enrollment, ration cards, Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY), caste certificates, Kisan Credit Cards, PM-Kisan assistance, Jan Dhan accounts, and social security pensions for the elderly, widows, and persons with disabilities.
Heads of departments and Circle Officers participated in the meeting, underscoring a coordinated effort to empower the tribal population through informed participation and streamlined service delivery. The initiative follows the official launch of the campaign in Assam earlier this month by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in Dibrugarh, reflecting the state’s commitment to inclusive and equitable development.
