Assam BDO Arrested in Bribery Case Amidst Anti-Corruption Drive

Guwahati, August 17, 2024 — In a notable step in Assam’s intensified anti-corruption campaign, Khurseeda Khanam, the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Srijangram Development Block, has been arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption. The arrest follows allegations that Khanam solicited and received a bribe through her Assistant BDO.

The arrest comes after a thorough investigation into corruption allegations within Khanam’s office. Authorities also conducted a search of her residence in Dibrugarh, where they uncovered a substantial sum of Rs 14 lakh in cash. The source of this cash is under close examination as part of the ongoing probe.

Khanam’s arrest highlights a broader crackdown on corruption by the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, reflecting the Assam government’s robust efforts to tackle unethical practices among high-ranking officials.
