Assam: Beef Smuggler Netted in Dhubri Raid, 200 Kg Seized

Dhubri: In a significant breakthrough against the illicit beef trade, Assam Police successfully apprehended a suspected smuggler and confiscated nearly two quintals of beef in Dhubri district on Thursday morning. The operation, a continued thrust against the state-wide ban, underscores the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement at the Assam-West Bengal border.

Acting on a precise intelligence input, a dedicated team under the leadership of Officer-in-Charge Debajit Kalita of Golakganj Police Station launched a pre-dawn operation. The target was Biratnagar Chariali, a key point along National Highway 17. During the raid, police intercepted a numberless scooty that was en route to Gauripur. Upon being signalled to stop, the rider attempted a daring escape, ultimately crashing the vehicle in a desperate bid to flee.

While the driver of the scooty managed to evade arrest under the cover of darkness, one individual identified as Azizur Rahman, hailing from Mansai under Bakshirhat Police Station in neighbouring West Bengal, was nabbed at the scene. A thorough inspection of the crashed vehicle revealed the consignment of two quintals of banned beef, cleverly concealed within.

The seized vehicle and the contraband beef have been taken into official custody. Authorities have initiated a comprehensive investigation to unearth and dismantle the broader network involved in this cross-border beef smuggling operation.

This incident highlights the ongoing struggle for law enforcement to curb the illegal flow of meat from West Bengal, even with the stringent prohibition imposed by the Assam government on the sale and transport of beef. Police sources have reiterated their commitment, affirming that such intensified operations will continue unabated in the border regions to rigorously enforce the ban and curtail all forms of illicit activities.
