Assam: Bhutan King Inspects Jogighopa Logistics Hub, Signalling Stronger Regional Ties
Guwahati: His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan made an unscheduled visit to the under-construction International Multimodal Logistics Park in Jogighopa, Bongaigaon district, Assam, today, April 19.
The royal visit, though slightly delayed from its 8:30 AM scheduled arrival, underscores the deepening economic and diplomatic relations between Bhutan and India.
The arrival was met with heightened security measures, including a substantial deployment of Bhutanese security personnel at the logistics park site.
This reflects the importance placed on the visit and the project itself, which is set to become India’s first international multimodal logistics hub.
Assam Cabinet Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah accompanied King Wangchuck throughout the inspection, highlighting the collaborative nature of the project.
The logistics park is poised to transform regional trade infrastructure, significantly bolstering economic ties with neighboring nations, notably Bhutan and Bangladesh.
Following the on-site inspection of the logistics park, the King also toured the adjacent Inland Water Transport (IWT) port.
The visit was conducted under tight security protocol, with media access strictly restricted by the local administration.
Officials anticipate that the Jogighopa logistics park will revolutionize cross-border trade and logistics, positioning Assam as a pivotal gateway to Southeast Asian markets upon its completion.
