Assam BJP Chief Condemns Pahalgam Terror Attack, Demands Strict Action Against Pakistan
Guwahati: Assam Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Dilip Saikia has strongly condemned the Pahalgam terror attack and demanded strict action against Pakistan.
Saikia urged the Indian government to eliminate extremist groups in Pakistan and PoK, stressing the need for zero tolerance towards terrorism. “We, Indians, want that Pakistan should be punished for their inhumane act in Pahalgam. Pakistan should be given what it deserves,” Saikia said.
The Indian government has taken significant measures in response to the attack. On Saturday, it imposed an immediate ban on the direct or indirect import and transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan, effectively halting bilateral trade flows. The Commerce and Industry Ministry’s notification stated that the restriction is imposed in the interest of national security and public policy.
The ban prohibits the import of all goods from Pakistan, whether or not they are freely importable or otherwise permitted. Any exception to this prohibition will require prior approval from the Government of India. This move comes after the Central government announced several diplomatic measures, including closing the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari and suspending the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals.
The Pahalgam terror attack occurred on April 22, when terrorists attacked tourists at Baisaran meadow, killing 26 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, while leaving several others injured. The attack sparked widespread outrage and condemnation, with demands for strict action against Pakistan.
In addition to the ban on imports, India has also held in abeyance the Indus Waters Treaty signed in 1960 and reduced the number of officers in the High Commissions on both sides. Pakistani nationals were given 40 hours to return to their country. These measures demonstrate India’s commitment to taking a strong stance against terrorism and extremism.
