Assam: BJP Delegation Assesses Flood Damage in Karimganj
Guwahati, June 28:A three-member BJP delegation visited the flood-affected areas of Karimganj, Assam, to assess the situation and provide support to the affected residents. Led by Bijni Assembly constituency MLA Ajay Roy, the team aimed to understand the extent of the damage and meet the immediate needs of the flood victims.
Accompanied by district BJP president Subrata Bhattacharya, the delegation toured several relief camps where flood victims have sought shelter. MLA Ajay Roy interacted with the residents, listened to their concerns, and assessed their urgent requirements. Many victims reported that their homes remained inundated, forcing them to stay in the relief camps for an extended period.
The delegation observed that although the government had distributed an adequate supply of raw materials to the affected areas, some residents continued to face challenges due to the persistent floodwaters. The team assured the victims that they would address these issues with the district commissioner to accelerate the recovery process.
The delegation plans to submit a comprehensive report on the Karimganj floods to the state BJP president, highlighting the ongoing challenges and needs of the flood-affected population.
Earlier, on June 25, the flood situation in Assam worsened as the River Kushiyara in Karimganj rose above the danger level, impacting over 1.70 lakh people across ten districts. The deluge submerged 631 villages, leading to widespread displacement and disruption.
In response to the crisis, authorities have established hundreds of relief camps, housing more than thirteen thousand individuals who have been forced to flee their homes.
