Assam: BJP Leader Pradan Baruah Files Nomination Papers in Lakhimpur for Lok Sabha Elections

Guwahati, 26th March: Lok Sabha MP and BJP leader Pradan Baruah submitted his nomination papers in Lakhimpur for the upcoming General elections.

Baruah’s candidacy is significant as the BJP has strategically positioned him to compete against Congress’s new face, Uday Shankar Hazarika. Hazarika secured the ticket after extensive party discussions, which debated whether to nominate him or three-time former Congress MP and senior leader Ranee Narah. Notably, Hazarika had a longstanding association with the BJP before joining the Congress a few months ago.

Lakhimpur is scheduled for polls on April 19, alongside four other Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam. With approximately 25 per cent Mishing Community voters and about 10 per cent tea tribe electors, this constituency holds decisive sway in the elections.
