Assam: BJP MLA Vijay Malakar Slams Poor Management at Loan Waiver Event Over Low Turnout

Silchar: BJP MLA Vijay Malakar criticized the district administration for its poor management during a cheque and microfinance loan waiver event, which was expected to benefit 50,000 individuals.

Despite the ambitious scale of the initiative, the event saw a disappointingly low turnout, with only around 1,000 attendees present, leaving large sections of chairs glaringly empty.

Visibly frustrated by the situation, Malakar questioned the efficiency of the organizers. “Why are only 1,000 people present when 50,000 beneficiaries were supposed to participate? This points to administrative inefficiency. It seems not all beneficiaries were properly invited,” he remarked. He called on officials to ensure better planning, communication, and coordination in future programs to avoid similar shortcomings.

The event, intended to provide significant relief to microfinance loan borrowers, also marked the first official participation of newly-appointed minister Kaushik Roy. Roy was greeted with a warm welcome, but the poor turnout and empty chairs quickly overshadowed the occasion, becoming the focal point of discussions.

Observers noted that the underwhelming attendance dampened the impact of what could have been a landmark initiative for beneficiaries. Malakar’s remarks underscored the need for the administration to reassess its outreach strategies to ensure the success of such welfare programs in the future.
