Assam: BJP Nominates Bhubhan Gam For Majuli By-Poll
Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has named Bhuban Gam as their candidate for the upcoming Majuli bypolls in Assam.
The polling will take place on March 7 and the results will be announced on March 10.
In a statement, BJP national general secretary Arun Singh said, “The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the BJP has finalised one name for the bypolls of Assam Assembly.”
The bypoll was called after Union Minister and former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal resigned from the Rajya Sabha after being elected unopposed last year.
The deadline for filing nominations is February 17, and nominations will be scrutinised on February 18.
Last date for withdrawal of candidatures is February 21. On February 5, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the schedule for the by-election in Majuli (ST) Assembly Constituency of Assam.
It may be mentioned that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Sonowal met in New Delhi earlier this month to finalize their party candidate for Majuli by-poll.
Meanwhile, Congress has abandoned the Majuli seat for Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP).
The AJP has yet to name its nominee for the renowned sea award.
