Assam: BJP Worker Killed in Pre-Poll Violence in State, CM Sarma Blames Congress Supporters

In a disturbing incident of pre-poll violence in Samaguri, Assam, a BJP worker, Bipul Saikia, tragically lost his life during clashes between BJP and Congress supporters.

The confrontation has heightened tensions as the region gears up for by-elections scheduled for November 13.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his sorrow and outrage over the violence, taking to social media platform X to extend his condolences to Saikia’s family. In a strongly-worded message, CM Sarma accused Congress supporters of orchestrating the attack, labeling it a blatant example of the party’s alleged hypocrisy. “My deepest condolences to the family of our @BJP4Assam karyakarta from Samaguri, Late Bipul Saikia, who was violently attacked and killed by goons of @INCAssam,” he wrote.

Sarma vowed that those responsible for the attack would face the full weight of the law, asserting that justice would prevail. He criticized Congress for its calls to “protect the Constitution,” suggesting that their actions contradicted these claims and were aimed at inciting violence to undermine democratic processes. “The sacrifice of our karyakartas shall not go in vain,” he declared, emphasizing his commitment to accountability.

Bipul Saikia succumbed to his injuries at his home in Bajiagaon after the violent altercation that erupted on Thursday afternoon in the Bormar Bhogamur area. Reports indicate that tensions flared between the two parties when accusations surfaced that supporters were obstructing each other’s rallies. The incident raises serious concerns about the escalating political violence in the region as both parties prepare for the upcoming by-polls.
