Assam: BJP’s Bhuban Gam Wins Majuli Constituency

Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Bhuban Gam won the by-polls in the Majuli constituency by-polls for which were held on March 7.

It was a three-way fight between Assam Jatiya Parishad nominee Chittaranjan Basumatary, Bhaity Richong of the SUCI(C) and the BJP candidate Gam.

Bhuban Gam won the constituency with a margin of 41,530 votes after receiving 66, 094 votes.

Former Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal resigned from the assembly after being offered a job in the Union Ministry, prompting elections in the constituency.

The counting of ballots for the 99 Majuli (ST) constituency began at 8 a.m. today. Nitin Khade, the Chief Electoral Officer of Assam, met with the DEO of Majuli to examine the counting arrangements.
