Assam: Bodo Community Celebrates 63 Years of Medium of Instruction in Baksa
Shalbari, Baksa: The 63rd Bodo Medium Day was observed today with vibrant cultural displays and heartfelt reflections at Shalbari in Baksa district. The Salbari District Bodo Sahitya Sabha orchestrated the event, commemorating the pivotal moment on May 18, 1963, when the Bodo language was officially introduced as a medium of instruction during the administration of then Assam Chief Minister Bimala Prasad Chaliha.
Padma Shri recipient and Sahitya Akademi laureate Dr. Anil Boro, in his keynote address, eloquently highlighted the historical importance of the Bodo medium for the educational and socio-cultural fabric of the state. “This marked a significant milestone in our journey towards self-identity and empowerment,” he stated, reminiscing about the initial challenges and subsequent victories that defined the Bodo linguistic movement.
The commemorative gathering drew a distinguished audience, including Central Executive Member Rajendra Basumatary, former Central Secretary Upendra Boro Deuri, renowned author Jamidar Goyari, and Dambaru Basumatary. A significant number of writers, academics, and community members also participated in the day’s events.
The day’s agenda was filled with meaningful activities, commencing with the unfurling of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha flag, followed by a solemn tribute to the community’s forerunners. An environmentally conscious tree plantation drive was also undertaken, alongside engaging literary discussions centered on the trajectory and future prospects of the Bodo language and its literary traditions.
The celebration culminated in a collective reaffirmation of commitment to the preservation and advancement of the Bodo language within academic institutions and the broader cultural landscape.
