Assam: Body of Umrangso Coal Mine Victim Returned to Kokrajhar
Assam: The body of Khushi Mohan Rai, a miner who tragically lost his life in the Umrangso coal mine mishap, was brought back to his hometown of Kokrajhar late last night. Rai, a resident of Sitila Mazergaon, had ventured to the coal mines of Umrangso in search of work to support his family.
The mishap occurred in a flooded rat-hole mine, a perilous and illegal mining practice prevalent in the region, claiming multiple lives, including Rai’s. Despite continuous rescue operations, the incident underscored the dangers faced by miners working under unsafe and unregulated conditions.
Rai’s body was recovered during the ongoing rescue efforts and transported to his grieving family, who are now mourning the untimely loss of a loved one. The tragedy has cast a pall of sorrow over the community in Kokrajhar, highlighting the human cost of illegal mining practices.
