Assam: Bokakhat’s Rs 1-Crore Agriculture Training Centre Lies in Ruins Two Years After Inauguration
Guwahati: A government building constructed at a cost of nearly Rs 1 crore in Bokakhat, under the constituency of Agriculture Minister and local MLA Atul Bora, lies abandoned and deteriorating barely two years after its inauguration.
The “Knowledge and Training Centre,” built within the Sub-Divisional Agriculture Office compound, was inaugurated by Minister Bora on June 6, 2023. It was envisioned as a hub to empower farmers with modern agricultural practices, updated information, and training on advanced seed usage and improved techniques.
However, the centre has never been put to use since its inauguration. Left neglected, the facility has rapidly fallen into disrepair. Ceiling panels, fans, lights, and bathroom fittings are deteriorating, while monkeys have reportedly damaged parts of the unused structure.
Farmers expressed deep disappointment, saying the centre, which was meant to boost agricultural development, has instead turned into a symbol of wasted public money. Locals have questioned why officials failed to bring the matter to the minister’s notice despite the centre being in his own constituency.
The incident has drawn widespread criticism and reignited debate over the misuse of public resources and the absence of follow-up mechanisms in government projects, with many demanding accountability for the neglect.
