Assam boxers secure 38 medals at REC Eastern Open Talent Hunt
Guwahati, 19th March: The REC Eastern Open Talent Hunt Programme concluded at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan (DTRP) Indoor Stadium in Guwahati on Monday, March 18, with Assamese boxers showcasing their prowess and clinching a total of 38 medals (Youth and Elite), out of which nine were gold.
The Youth Girls category emerged as a standout, securing 19 medals in total, with five gold medals, highlighting their exceptional talent and dedication. Meanwhile, the Youth Boys category clinched seven medals, including one gold. In the Elite category, the Women’s team secured ten medals, including two golds, while the Men’s team took home two medals, with one being gold.
The event witnessed participation from over 1,000 boxers from various parts of the country. The open championship was organized by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) in collaboration with REC Limited under the Union Ministry of Power.
The tournament provided a platform for participants to showcase their skills and potentially earn invitations to join the trials for inclusion in BFI’s national camps. All quarterfinalists in this championship will qualify for the national camps, further fueling aspirations and opportunities in the boxing community.
