Assam: Brahmaputra River Rafting Expedition Reaches Dhemaji

Guwahati: The Brahmaputra River Rafting Expedition, led by celebrated Indian Army officer Colonel Ranveer Singh Jamwal, SM, VSM**, has reached Dhemaji in Assam, marking a significant milestone in its extraordinary journey.

The expedition, which began on January 14, 2025, from Gelling in Arunachal Pradesh, aims to cover the entire 916-kilometer stretch of the Brahmaputra River within India, concluding at Dhubri-Hatsingimari in Assam.

Col. Jamwal, a legendary mountaineer and Director of the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), Dirang, is spearheading the mission.

A three-time Everest summiteer with over 70 mountaineering expeditions to his name, Col. Jamwal is also a recipient of the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award.

Reflecting on the journey, he stated, “This expedition is about more than just adventure—it’s about pushing boundaries, overcoming fear, and setting a new benchmark for exploration in India.”

The 22-member team includes 14 experts from NIMAS, along with notable participants like Captain Kavitha Basu Palli, a seasoned adventurer and doctor, and Junior Commissioned Officer Ravi Devdkar.

The mission also involves two skilled safety kayakers and several jawans, all contributing to the team’s success.

Having already traversed 400 kilometers of the Brahmaputra’s challenging waters, the team has showcased resilience and unparalleled determination, particularly when navigating the life-threatening rapids of the Siang stretch.

Earlier in the journey, six participants from Arunachal Pradesh joined the team between Upper Siang and Pasighat, embodying the spirit of local adventure. However, unforeseen circumstances prevented them from continuing beyond Pasighat.

The expedition is a celebration of India’s adventurous spirit, aiming to inspire young adventurers and bring attention to the natural beauty and challenges of the northeastern region.

Passing through Dhemaji is a significant milestone in this monumental adventure, demonstrating the team’s courage and dedication to completing the journey despite numerous obstacles.

As the team prepares for the final leg of the expedition, their journey stands as a testament to the power of teamwork, resilience, and the thrill of venturing into the unknown.

The Brahmaputra River Rafting Expedition not only highlights the spirit of exploration but also pays homage to the magnificence of one of India’s greatest rivers.
